· Strengthened
academic atmosphere and research interest in the University through programs
such as curriculum integration and journal accreditation for all faculties.

· Participated in a number of discussions and activities, including spoke among others at the London School of Economics
[The Society of Legal Scholars (SLS) Conference], Hong Kong University [Asian
Law Institute (ASLI) Conference], and Kyoto University [Association of
Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) Conference].

Awarded a Graduate Research Scholarship and the
President's Graduate Fellowship. (Such awards are
reserved for outstanding research scholars at the University.)

2004
– 2005: State-Owned Asset Management Company (PT PPA Persero)
NATIONAL COORDINATOR
· Appointed
as the national coordinator for legal verification of assets of the State-Owned
Asset Management Company (PT PPA Persero), the successor to the Indonesia Bank
Restructuring Agency (BPPN) responsible for managing assets totaling
billions of US dollars of the Indonesian defunct banks.
·
Prepared
and directed all program activities. Hired lawyers/researchers meeting the
standard and trained them able to deal with and understand both the substance
(of various main and supporting legal documents) and the new IT operating
system.
·
Coordinated
some 100 legal researchers to verify 14,635 debtors’ assets of Indonesian
SMEs,
concentrated in 5 provinces (based in Medan, Lampung, Jakarta, Semarang, and
Surabaya).
· Advised and worked closely
with the PPA management, supplied daily reports through an integrated on-line
IT system, and submitted a final report for use in PPA’s strategic planning.

2002
– 2003: Department of Fisheries and Maritime of
the Republic of Indonesia
TEAM LEADER
·
Appointed
as team leader of national research on alternative dispute resolution for
Indonesian fishermen with the pilot projects in North Sumatera (as
representation to West Indonesia) and South Sulawesi (representation of East
Indonesia).
·
Planned,
directed and coordinated the team of fishing experts, law professors and senior
researchers to decipher the root causes of conflict among fishermen and then
suggested means to resolve the conflict through alternative dispute resolution.
·
Led
joint research initiatives with the University of North Sumatera in Medan and
University of Hasanudin in Makassar, established fisheries-related-conflict
resolution agencies there, and worked closely with fishermen associations and
non-government organizations (NGOs) in the regions especially for data’s
collection.
·
Made
presentations of the research result before local and central governments and
submitted a final report which contributed to the national policy on
alternative dispute resolution of fisheries.

1998
– 2001: Indonesia Tourism Promotion Board (BPPI)
CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
·
Managed
Indonesia’s worldwide tourism promotion efforts, placing particular emphasis on
key markets such as Singapore, Australia, the UK, Germany, the Netherlands,
Japan and the US.
·
Turned
around the Board’s previous financial difficulties by streamlining the Board’s
external relationships and used a “push” strategy for tourism promotion by
directly dealing with tourism intermediaries such as travel agents, hotels,
airlines, local tourism authorities, etc. (Since to promote tourism products
with push strategy required a full support of the domestic tourism players,
ITPB did road shows and signed Memoranda of Understanding with some such key
tourism regions as Bali, West Java, and Jogjakarta.)

Worked
closely with all Indonesian tourism associations, and together with the Ministry
for Culture and Tourism invited intermediaries and domestic tourism players to
participate in world tourism events, including the biggest trade shows in
Berlin (ITB) and London (WTM). (All national chairmen of these associations
became members of ITPB’s Board of Director, holding regular meetings every two
weeks.)

Advised
the central and local governments on tourism strategies and worked together to
boost up Indonesia’s tourism revenues (during the economic crisis), resulting
in an increase of international visitors’ spending from $4.4 billion in 1998 to
$5.7 billion in 2001.

(1) “Entrepreneurial Marketing” at Harvard Business School; and (2) “The

meetings, including training workshop on “Environmental Reform: the Next
Generation Project” at Yale Law School.
